Steve Blake signs with Lakers, signals end for Derek Fisher

(Los Angeles, CA) -- The L.A. Lakers are reported to have a verbal agreement with free agent point guard Steve Blake in a four-year $16 million dollar contract. The deal can not be singed until after the July 8th official signing period but my signal the end of Derek Fisher's time with the Lakers.

The Lakers long time point guard Derek Fisher, who has won five NBA titles with the team, is an un restricted free agent and is looking for a 2-4 four year deal for somewhere around $10 million. The Lakers also have to look into resigning Shannon Brown and Jordan Farmer, their other point guards from last seasons NBA Finals squad.

For his career Blake is averaging 7.3 points and 4.8 assists per game.

Blake spent last season with the L.A. Clippers and has been a journeymen playing for five teams in his eight year career. Blake was a member of the 2002 NCAA National Champion ship team from the University of Maryland.

  1. well, i am for steve blake and fisher but never on farmar and browne. they're just too erratic. i hope they bring in raja bell too...i would also like to trade bynum for bosh...LA will be unbeatable then.

  2. highly unlikely but I like the way your thinking. I think you make a good point with bynum. He is a little to injury prone for my liking.

  3. picking up Blake is definitely a plus for them. He is more of the traditional type point guard, looking to set up your 'bigs' but able to make big shots as well.

  4. Bynum may be injury prone but no way you trade this guy bosch can't handle this guy in the low post, also bynum's only 22 got a ton of time, trading him would be a very bad decision.

  6. Rick U r sick Bosch 4 Bynum is crazy. Bosch is a 4 not a 5. Plus I agreed u got plenty of time to wait on Bynum. Blake is ok but it was still better point guards out there then him. U r talking the about the triangle offense, u do not need traditional point guard, u had 1 in Jordan Farmer. Raymond Felton,Will Bynum,& Chris Duhon just name a few are better suit for the triangle. Plus u keep Shannon Brown.

  7. D Fish is the emotional leader of this squad...also keeps Kobe's feet on ground...I mean is Blake gonna handle Kobe's pressure to perform, and what about when he turns the ball over Kobe's gonna chew him out... not a good thing...D Fish was and is our little general, at least keep him off the bench.

  10. Why is Kobe silent on the non-signing of Fisher? Without Fisher on the roster (bench leader or starter) the Lakers are toast! PAY THE MAN!!!!

  11. Its an excellent fit signing Blake, he distributes the ball and can hit the outside shot. Remember they dont use the tringle all the time. He can do either. I agree keep Fisher, but have hime come off the bench. Or have Blake start the season on the bench and slowly allow him to work his way into the starting lineup. Either way Fish stays!

  12. Kobe and Phil need to speak up on keeping Fish. He is 2 important to let go. And Why would you trade Bynum for Bosh? Bosh is the same type of player as Gasol (not quite as good). We need size down low, not just length. Need to somehow trade away contracts i.e. Luke, Sasha, and dead weight Morrison (molester stache), Mbenga. Korver would fit the triangle if Lakers can free up some of that money.
