Sixers Top Nets In Summer League Debut, 84-76.

(Orlando, FL) - July 5th marked the official start of basketball in the NBA as all 30 teams began their Summer League Development program. Teams stocked with rookies and first and second year pros team up with undrafted invitees to develop the future of a franchise.

The Philadelphia 76ers began their summer league campaign against a similar foe in the New Jersey Nets and got a glimpse of one of the top five draft picks they passed up in Derrick Favours. The Sixers chose Ohio State G/F Evan Turner over Favours in this years NBA Draft.


The jury is still out and will be for some time but both looked solid in their first action for their new teams.

Evan Turner had 12 points and eight rebounds but the leader for the Sixers was point guard Jrue Holiday. The second year pro out of UCLA finished with a team high 23 points on 8-of-13 from the field and has eight assists.

Fellow guard Jodie Meeks has 18 points and went 6-of-9 from the free throw line.
The Sixers showcased three potential starters in Turner, Holliday and third year big man Marreese Speights.

The Nets were led by second-year guard Terrence Williams who finished with 23 points and eight assists.

Third overall selection Derrick Favours looked solid with eight points and nine boards in only 24 minutes of work.

The Sixers are back in action today as they take on the Boston Celtics summer league squad, game time is set for 5 p.m. and is available on NBA Summer League Broadband.
