Nets Accept Fate: Sign Travis Outlaw

(Newark, NJ) -- Just hours before their incredibly public rejection by LeBron James the New Jersey Nets are playing back up lackey singing small forward Travis Outlaw to a five-year $35 million dollar deal.

Outlaw spent last season with the Clippers and the Trailblazers. Before being traded to L.A. after only 11 games last season he spent eight years of his career in Portland.

Coming straight out of high school in 2003 Outlaw has spent his entire career as a role player and is expected to take on a starting role for the Nets, whom are in the beginning of a very obvious rebuilding phase.

Most of the mid-level free agents will sign after LeBron makes is major announcement tonight and the Nets wanted to get to the top of the heap in signing Outlaw.

Despite a league worst 12-70 the Nets do have a strong core of young players they want to build around. The core of Brook Lopez, Devin Harris and Courtney Lee will join third overall selection Derek Favours as New Jerseys main starters.

Outlaw has averaged 9.1 ppg and 3.6 reb for his career and is a 44% percent shooter.

  1. Wow, $7 mil a year to someone who doesn't even score double digits. I could do that for about $500k per year.
