This is an Examiner.com piece to read the original CLICK HERE

The Philadelphia 76ers needed an extra five minutes but eventually pulled out a tough hard fought 106-103 victory against the Chicago Bulls Wednesday night at the Wachovia Center.

Bulls guard Derrick Rose put on a show finishing with 30 including 13 in the final quarter to push the game to overtime but it wasn't enough as the Bulls (23-24) were outscored by Philly 12-9 in overtime. The Bulls came into the game on a five game road winning streak.

For the Sixers its was a nice showcase by the forwards. Elton Brand finished with a team high 26 points on 12-22 shooting and despite a cold first half Andre Iguodala finished with 25 points, 11-19 from the field. Both players were tough on the defensive end accounting for 17 of the teams 43 rebounds.

Center Samuel Dalembert had the games only double-double ending with 10 points and 13 boards.

The game stayed tight in overtime with Rose tying the game at 98 with 1:41 to go on clutch free throws. On the insuring possession Andre Iguodala hit his first three-pointer of the game to give Philly the lead for good at 101-98.

This is the second win in a row for the Sixers (17-31).

The Sixers had a strong outing from Willie Green who started in the place of veteran Allen Iverson. Iverson missed the game due to an illness to one of his children. Green ended the game with 16 points on 6-9 shooting.

The Sixers will now head on the road for a two game trip to New Orleans and Houston. Philly will hope to get their first three game winning streak of the season on the trip. The Sixers beat the Hornets 96-92 on January 11th and fell to the Rockets a month early 91-96. Both came at the Wachovia Center.

Phillies News 2/2

"Were Not The Yankees"

Damn right were not. Whether you call him smug arrogant or you bow in his presence (me) you have to understand how important Ruben Amaro Jr. has become in the world of Philadelphia sports. He was one of the guys that helped the Phillies get to the World Series and win then when he was THE GUY in charge he not only helped the team get back to the big dance but in the following months helped bring the most respected and dangerous pitchers in baseball to Philadelphia.

Everyone is still up in awe about the Cliff Lee trade and I understand but I think that Ruben stated his case very well this week. In a recent press conference he finally said it "We cannot be the New York Yankees," he went on further to say that if the team is to be good for the future and to stay in contention that it will all come from work inside the system and that if they fans want a quality product on the field that they need to understand that the team will never be in a position to get into a bidding war with the Yankees or any other of the top tear American League teams.

Howard in Clearwater

The Phils still have a few weeks until all pitches and catchers are to report to spring training but ina delightful surprise Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is already in Clearwater and ready to go for the season. Howard reported this week with Phillies coach Sam Perlozzo working on mechanics and some defensive drills.

Sam reported that not only is Ryan in good spirits for the upcoming season but he has also trimmed down even beyond his slimmer and healthier frame he had last season.

Brown & Aumont among MLB.com finest.

Every year around this time MLB.com posts their top 50 prospects ready for the major leagues. It is usually a preview towards players that could be in the majors this year and also chronicles the top players and their future impacts to their clubs. Former top picks on this list have been Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels as well as Tampa Bay Rays phenom David Price.

Dominic Brown came in at 14 and was ranked as one of the most complete five tool athletes on the list. The 22 year old is presently in AA ball but could see time in the majors this season depending on the status of the Phillies bench or injuries.

Phillippe Aumont is one of the prospects that came to the Phillies in the Cliff Lee deal to Seattle. Aumont came in at 47 and is projected to either be a top of the rotation player (depending on when he makes the bigs) or even quicker as a relief pitcher. Aumont is still a raw talent but is making strides in AA.

Former Phillies prospect and present Blue Jays minor leaguer came in at 17. It still stings a bit to know hes no longer with the Phils but he should see some time with the Jays this season.

Also just in a bit of a throw back I found this on YouTube today:

So Much For "Improving The Farm System"

Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Brody Colvin was arrested early yesterday in Lafayette Louisiana after a early morning altercation with police. Colvin is being charged with misdemeanor assault, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

This story was first broken by Daily News correspondent Phil Hagan . Hagan reports that the seventh round draft pick was arrested on Jefferson street, which is a hotspot for bars and nightclubs. It has yet to be reported if Colvin,19, had alcohol in his system at the time of arrest.

Colvin made one appearance for the Gulf Coast League Phillies and played in the Florida Instructional League last season. He was drafted in the seventh round out of St. Thomas More High School and passed up a full ride scholarship to LSU to play for the Phillies.

Colvin was paid a $900,000 signing bonus when he was drafted and was one of MaxPreps top 100 high school prospects.

Full details of the arrest have not been released and it could take up to 10 business days for the police report to be made public.

Sixers Survive Nets 83-79

This is an Examiner.com piece to read the original CLICK HERE

Two days after going the distance with the L.A. Lakers the Philadelphia Sixers barely got by the worst team in basketball as they beat the New Jersey Nets 83-79 at the IZOD Center. The Sixers ended a three game losing streak in the process but kept the game a little close for comfort.

The Sixers (16-31) were lead by forward Andre Iguodala, who despite numerous trade rumors this week, finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.

The game was kept close due to the mediocre play by guard Allen Iverson. Iverson who carried the Sixers against the Lakers finishing with 23 points, A.I. ended the game in Jersey with 11 points and five assists.

Center Samuel Dalembert finished another stellar game with a 12 point 11 rebound effort. Sammy has increased his production in recent weeks and since the beginning of 2010 is averaging close to a double double every night.

Despite losing the rebounding battle the Sixers forced the Nets into 18 turnovers converting for 25 fast break points.

The Sixers played catch up for most of the second half as New Jersey lead by 10 at one point early in the third. The Nets were lead by a pair of big men, rookie center Brook Lopez and seven footer Yi Jianlian. Lopez finished with a game high 18 points and Yi finished with a double double ending with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

This was another example of the lack of identity the Sixers are showing the season. The team finished with a dismal 31-85 (36.5%) from the field. The Sixers have become a tale of two teams who tend to stay competitive with over matched teams yet play down and tend to trail lower tiered opponents.

In the post game press conference Iverson reiterated this sentiment saying that its unacceptable to play against the world champions then finish a nail biter against a four win team...

Allen for once I agree with you..

The Nets (4-42) are on pace to end the season with the worst record in NBA history, a crown held by the 1972-73 Sixers who went an dismal 9-73.
